Cleethorpes
A Guide To Sea Fishing At Cleethorpes- Accessible year-round with good warm-season and cold-season fishing options.
-
Offers a diverse variety of species depending on the season.
-
Requires some strategy—Fishes better on bigger tides. Fishing times are usually 2 hours either side of high water.
- In the warmer months, the area can be bustling with tourists, while in the colder months it becomes a popular spot for dog walkers.
Cleethorpes Central Promenade runs from the Boating Lake area eastwards toward Marine Drive, with multiple stepped accesses onto the main sandy beach.
Sea fishing is most productive around high-water slack and the hour either side. Please be mindful that during the warmer months, Cleethorpes gets a surge in foot traffic.
-
Weekday mornings (before 10 AM) and late afternoons (after 4 PM) are noticeably quieter.
-
Outside the school summer holiday (late July–late August) footfall drops back to a few thousand per day rather than tens of thousands.
Always keep an eye on tide times—the Humber can sweep in faster than you’d expect

FAQ's
Frequently Asked QuestionsIs The Mark Accessible For Less Mobile Anglers?
Absolutely. You can park right on the seawall and fish straight from the back of your car if you wish.
Can You Fish This At Low Water?
Not on the main wall—most of the bank dries out at low tide. However, some spots stay fishable throughout the tide cycle.
At What Distance Should I Be Aiming For?
Fish can be found anywhere from 10–20 yards out to beyond 100 yards; the trick is to vary your casting distance until you locate a good tide run.
Take Your Rubbish Home.
Please remember that every piece of litter you leave behind—from empty bait wrappers to broken line and snack wrappers—diminishes the beauty and health of our fishing spots. When you take away your rubbish, you’re not only protecting the fragile estuary ecosystem and its wildlife, but you’re also ensuring that fellow anglers can enjoy a clean, welcoming environment on your next visit. Leaving no trace means fish habitats stay unpolluted, and birds and marine creatures aren’t put at risk by discarded plastics or nylon.
