Location Highlights & Access Routes

General Information

East Halton Skitter also known as the “Skitter Trail” on the south bank of the Humber estuary just north of East Halton village. The best window is around two hours either side of high water, when slack tides hold fish close to the wall. Last November This venue fished very well during the – The Phil Deitch Humber Open – Charity Match, Where the winner Ben Price landed a belting double digit Cod.

Seasonal Patterns of River Humber Fish Species

Autumn through early spring brings Codling, Whiting—and even Haddock in recent years!

The cod fishing season in the Humber generally peaks during the colder months, with the best fishing occurring from October through to March. Depending on the time of the year, this mark is capable of producing cod more commonly on the ebb.

Flounder fishing from this mark is generally productive year-round, but the peak season for catching larger flounder is from late autumn through the winter, particularly from September to February. During these months, they are actively feeding.

    FAQ's

    Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. You can park right on the seawall and fish straight from the back of your car if you wish. If you’d like to drop down to waterside level, a lightweight fishing ladder can help you climb safely over the wall.

Not on the main wall—most of the bank dries out at low tide.

General rule of thumb, for bigger tides head for the lower numbered bays. On smaller tides head for the higher numbered bays.

Fish can be found anywhere from 10–20 yards out to beyond 100 yards; the trick is to vary your casting distance until you locate a good tide run.

    Leave No Trace

    Take Your Rubbish Home.

Please remember that every piece of litter you leave behind—from empty bait wrappers to broken line and snack wrappers—diminishes the beauty and health of our fishing spots. When you take away your rubbish, you’re not only protecting the fragile estuary ecosystem and its wildlife, but you’re also ensuring that fellow anglers can enjoy a clean, welcoming environment on your next visit. Leaving no trace means fish habitats stay unpolluted, and birds and marine creatures aren’t put at risk by discarded plastics or nylon.
