Weekend Carnage – Yorkshire Summer League Match 3

09/08/2024

📍 Venue – Bonkers Bank / Buck Beck Beach

⏱️Time – 5pm – 9pm

📋 Number of Anglers – 31

So the weekend proved to be a great one for fishing, for a change. The summer matches have been difficult this year with fish being at a premium, however on Saturday evening the anticipation was high and it didn’t disappoint.

Brett’s match was planned for bonkers bank fishing 5pm-9pm. The weather was perfect with a nice westerly wind. We knew that if the fish was going to be there it would be from the off and we were spot on. The first fish hit the beach in the first 5mins of the start and it wasn’t long until the hounds were being landed all the way through the line of anglers!

A number of the guys fishing had never caught hounds at this venue and it was brilliant to watch their reactions as the hounds grabbed their baits and didn’t stop. Many saw rods and rests pulled over when a brief lack of concentration crept in.

It was frantic from the off with some fantastic specimens coming out. The biggest being 119cm, over 20lb caught by Michael Sudderby. But there was a number between 114cm-118cm. There was also a number of people who got bit off so it appears there was a few rope swimming around which added another element to the proceedings.

In the end it was a really close match with our very own Final Ibiza Boss Dan Cressey carrying on his current run of form and picking up 3rd overall. The North East lads dominated the first two positions with local anglers Brett Bartram and Mike Fox both winning their respective zones. I myself did ok with 9 hounds landed but it should have been 10 but I decided to release one on the beach before measuring it much to the amusement of Jordan Hunter and Karl Wiepcke. 😂😂

As the results show below, there was 239 fish landed with 234 of those being hounds. There was also loads of fish lost so the amount could have been much higher but what a session.

Everyone was shattered by the end of the match but everyone enjoyed the fishing and the craic.

Well done to all the guys!
