Frozen Sandeels – Natural Sea Fishing Bait
Our Medium Frozen Sandeels offer a versatile natural bait for anglers targeting bass, rays and other predatory sea fish.
Sandeels form an important part of the marine food chain, and many fish species actively hunt them around coastal waters. Their slender bodies make them easy to present whole or in sections, depending on the species and fishing conditions.
What Fish Can You Catch with Sandeels?
Bass and pollack regularly feed on sandeels, especially around reefs, wrecks and coastal marks where baitfish gather.
Anglers also use sandeels when targeting rays, brill and turbot. Their natural shape makes them a popular option for bottom fishing, while species such as mackerel and garfish may also take smaller bait presentations.
The best approach depends on the location, season and feeding habits of the fish.
How to Fish with Sandeels
You can use a whole sandeel or cut it into smaller sections to suit your hook size and chosen rig.
For rays, brill and turbot, a whole bait creates a long, natural-looking presentation. Secure the body with a few turns of bait elastic to help it withstand casting and remain in position on the hook.
For smaller presentations, cut the bait into sections and adjust the hook size accordingly.
You can also combine sandeel with squid to create a bait cocktail. Squid offers a firmer texture that can help support softer fish baits during casting.
Choosing the Right Bait Presentation
Medium sandeels offer flexibility when fishing different marks. A whole bait may suit anglers targeting larger predatory fish, while smaller sections allow a more compact presentation.
Consider the strength of the tide, the distance you need to cast and the size of your target species when preparing your bait.
Avoid excessive handling once the bait has thawed, as this can damage its delicate body.
